UPDATE: Considering Matthew Shepard Postponed
Out of concern for the health and safety of our audience, artists, and the entire Dessoff community, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the upcoming Dessoff performance of Considering Matthew Shepard scheduled for April 25. Given the increasingly problematic coronavirus situation, and the resultant CDC recommendation to avoid public gatherings for at least 8 weeks, we have come to this unfortunate but inevitable conclusion. We are working to reschedule this performance during our 20-21 season. We look forward to being in touch soon with the new date and venue, and wish you well until we are together again.
For those of you who have already purchased tickets, your tickets will be refunded or can be used for our rescheduled date in 20-21. We will be in touch as soon as we have more information, and please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns at dessoff@dessoff.org.
Ticket: $20-40 in advance; $25-$45 at the door.
Considering Matthew Shepard is a three-part fusion oratorio about the young, gay student who in 1998 was kidnapped, severely beaten, tied to a fence and left to die. Shepard’s gripping story is related in a variety of musical styles, with soulful texts by Hildegard von Bingen, Lesléa Newman, Michael Dennis Browne, and Rumi. Passages from Shepard’s personal journal, interviews and writings from his parents, newspaper reports, and additional texts by Johnson and Browne are poignantly woven throughout the work.
